Cecil Mae Burton, 84, of Edinburgh, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

She was born April 5, 1928, in Columbia, Ky., to the late Welby and Myrtie (Rooks) Rooks. She married Vertis Burton on Sept. 28, 1950. He preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1990.

Survivors include her children, Wendell (Lin) Burton of Indianapolis, Philip (Leona) Burton of Riverton, Wyo., Roger (Dawn) Burton, of Columbus, Timothy (Angie), Terry (Genny), Troy (Nancy), and Helen (Bob) Burton, Barbara McCorkle and Darlene (Rick) Murray, all of Edinburgh, Marilyn (Brian) Stephens of Nineveh, and Gary Burton; four brothers, Rollin and Eugene (Polly) Rooks, both of Edinburgh, Charles Curtis (Ethel) Rooks of Freetown and Avery (Bernice) Rooks of Columbia; two half brothers, Holland and Alvin Rooks; two sisters, Ruth Burton and Ida Pearl Bryant, both of Edinburgh; three half sisters, Bonnie Shelton, Dottie Misener and Judy Wilkins; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Tyler Rooks; and a half brother, Welby Rooks.

She attended Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church, gardening and flowers.

The Rev. Guy Hardin conducted a funeral service Wednesday Dec. 19 at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church. Visitation was Tuesday Dec. 18 and Wednesday before the service at the church. Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

Arrangements are being handled by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
