Clara B. (Jones) Figg-Holtsclaw, 89, Columbus, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at her home. Clara was born May 7, 1923, in Greene County, and was daughter of Norman C. and Sarah (Bough) Jones. She was the youngest of eleven children. She attended Bodwell Grade School, a one-room school house, and graduated from Solsberry High School.
Clara had worked for RCA, Sarkes Tarzian, Indiana University and during World War II, she worked at defense factories. Most of her life was spent raising her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also was an Avon representative for ten years before she retired. She lived in Bloomington from 1941 to 1957, and Nashville from 1957-1969, and then Columbus, where she currently resided.
On Dec. 13, 1941, she married Robert E. Figg and had a son, Robert D. Figg. She later married Howard D. Holtsclaw on Nov. 2, 1946. They were married 50 years and had five children that all survive, R. Darlene Deckard (Lonnie), Mary Ann Knight (Art), Richard D. Holtsclaw, Rhea D. Williams (Gary), and Denise R. Holtsclaw;16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard D. Holtsclaw; son Robert D. Figg; daughter-in-law Connie Holtsclaw; grandson Robert Figg Jr.; granddaughter Angela McCammon; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday Dec. 27 at the Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington. Pastor Barb Tuttle will officiate. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from noon- 2 p.m. Thursday Dec. 27 at the Funeral Chapel.
