Dora B. Merriman, 84, Indianapolis

Dora B. Merriman, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2012, at her home in Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Brown County to Clarence and Hallie J. (Fleener) Merriman. Dora was a 1946 graduate of Helmsburg High School and retired in 1985 as a dedicated legal secretary for Ice Miller, Dinadio & Ryan Law Firm in Indianapolis after 28 years of service. Prior to that, she was an administrative secretary at the University of California in Los Angeles.
Being the oldest child of 10, she helped her parents in raising her siblings, and in return, her siblings loved her like a mother and enjoyed caring for her during her later years. As a young lady growing up in Brown County, she became a member of Bear Creek Church in western Brown County and later became a faithful member of Thompson Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
Dora had a passion for the arts. She helped support the Indianapolis Orchestra and Opera. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and learning about history. Her travels took her to Rome, France, Russia, England and Italy. Dora also enjoyed reading and learning about historical figures.
Dora will be remembered by her siblings, three sisters, Esther Teague of Waynesville, Mo., Rosey Beauchamp of Cloverdale and Marie (Stanley) Fishel of Unionville; two brothers, Wayne Merriman of Quincy and Clarence (Mary) Merriman Jr. of Whiteland; caregiver Rhoda Whitaker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Louise Vandover; and three brothers, George, Frank and James Merriman.
The Rev. Tony Slutz will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 28 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends can call from 11 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home. Dora will be laid to rest in Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County.
Memorial contributions can be sent in honor of Dora to Bear Creek Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 100, Helmsburg, IN 47435.
