Billy Ray Maggard Sr., 73, Columbus

Billy Ray Maggard Sr., 73, of Columbus, went home to be with the lord at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at his home, with his wife and five children by his side.

Born in Letcher County, Ky., March 3, 1939, Billy was the son of Archie Maggard and Ella Fields Maggard. He married Agnes Blanford June 29, 1963.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Billy (Paula) Maggard, Jr. of Nashville, and Archie (Patricia) Maggard of Montgomery, Ala.; daughters, Ella (Forest) Pate of Hope, Anna Maggard of Columbus, and Emily (Paul) Jones of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey (Charles) Hammonds of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Curtis Maggard; and sisters, Vita Mae and Havis Maggard and Barbara Boggs

Billy retired from Golden Foundry after 38 years of service. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Indianapolis Colts. He loved his four legged friends, Jimmy, Tootsie and Scooter.

He was a member of Big Creek Old Regular Baptist Church.

Funeral service was conducted Monday Dec. 3 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Brother David Isom officiating. Calling was Sunday Dec. 2 and prior to the service Monday. Burial took place at Garland Brook Cemetery.
