Brown County, Nashville, Bartholomew County and Indiana State Police officers are searching a Peoga Road property today for clues, after a man whose disappearance they were investigating was found dead in Indianapolis.
Jamie Simpson was reported missing to the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, said Sheriff Rick Followell. He had not been seen since Saturday night.
Information gathered from the missing person’s report led officers to a property in the 4700 block of Peoga Road, just inside the Brown-Johnson county line.
“We believe that this person had been here at some point, and that there may have been some type of an altercation,” Followell said.
This morning, officers conducted a grid search of the 44-acre, partially wooded, ridgetop property, which includes several outbuildings, a small rental house and a pond.
“And during that time, we found that the individual that we were looking for is deceased and he is in the Marion County coroner’s office,” Followell said.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called to Warren Avenue in Indianapolis at 7:22 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26 on a report of an unidentified man, dead in an alley. The residential area is between the Indianapolis Zoo and Interstate 70, not far from downtown.
The Marion County coroner’s office confirmed that Jamie Simpson is in its records, and that his cause of death had not been determined.
Simpson has family in Brown County, and he and his twin brother attended school here. His age and place of residence were not immediately available.
Brown County officers visited the Peoga Road property Monday morning after receiving a call from Simpson’s father, who told dispatchers that a woman had tapped on his daughter-in-law’s window at 3 a.m., saying she had some information about his son.
The officer didn’t find anyone at the Peoga Road home on Monday morning. He and other officers returned to the property again later in the morning, after speaking with a sheriff's department visitor about the missing person’s report.
“That’s what we thought originally, it was just a missing person’s report,” Followell said. “And then it got to be more like, there could maybe be more to this. … I’ve got a detective working on it, I’ve got my chief working on it, and we’ve got a lot of boots on the ground up here looking for anything we can find.”
“We are talking to the people we need to be talking to,” he added. “There’s some folks that we would like to speak to, but we have not located them yet.”
