Monte Dean Summers, 61, Brown County

Monte Dean Summers, 61, of Brown County, died unexpectedly at 9:04 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in Columbus.

Born in Anderson, on July 7, 1951, he was the son of John and Katherine Dilts Summers. He grew up in Madison County and graduated from Highland High School in 1969. Monte married Debra Schmit on Sept. 5, 1980. He attended Ball State University and South Meridian Church of God in Anderson. He was a master craftsman, constructing many fine homes in and around Brown County. He will also be remembered as a true outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. Monte loved the American West and its history. He and his wife shared numerous trips into the Rocky Mountain region. Over all, his strong faith in God sustained him and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Debbie Schmit Summers; father, John Summers of Anderson; sister, Melody Hull of Alexandria; and a brother, Meredith Summers of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Summers.

Family and friends can call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 28 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike. A private family service is planned at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson. Burial will be at Bronnenberg Cemetery in Chesterfield.
