Shirley Howard David, 90, of Greenwood, passed away Sunday Nov. 18, 2012. He was born Oct. 2, 1922 in Helmsburg, son of the late Shirley and Mary David, Sr.

He married Rosemary Tinkle on May 1, 1942, and she preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2008.

Mr. David is survived by his children, Jeannie (Reinold) Von Fange, Kathy (Tom) Leslie, Patty (Warren) Craft, Steve and Mike (Elizabeth) David; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Ford, Marjory Linehan and Beulah McCracken.

Mr. David graduated from Center Grove High School in 1940 before enrolling in the United States Air Force. He was a 22-year veteran of the Air Force, serving in WWII where he piloted a B-24 on 22 combat missions over Germany, Austria and Northern Italy. He spent the last few years of his military service stationed at the Pentagon as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, achieving the rank of chief master sergeant.  Mr. David later retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years, having served as postmaster in both Crothersville and Edinburg.  He had a passion for his family and sports, especially golf, having played his last round at the Legends Golf Club in October.

His family will host an informal open house from 6- 8 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 21, at the Indiana Golf Office, 2625 Hurricane Road, Franklin.
