Carl Vandagrifft, 86, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2012 at the Franklin United Methodist Community. He was a resident of Martinsville.
Carl was born May 22, 1926 in Morgan County to Arthur Edgil and Laura (Everling) Vandagrifft, who preceded him in death. He married his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Naomi F. Wright, on May 27, 1945.
Carl was the owner and operator of the Vandagrifft Oil Company in Martinsville for more than 35 years. He took great pride in delivering oil to area residents and made many friends along the way. Carl enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, raising crops on his family farm and milking cows. He was a fan of Sprint Car racing and the Indianapolis 500. Carl and his wife Naomi were members of the Ding-a-Lings Square Dance Club for more than 16 years.
Carl is survived by his wife; one daughter, Wanda L. (Leo) Sullivan of Martinsville; two grandchildren, Brent (Amanda) Sullivan of Bedford and Sherri (Paul) Waters of Saint Jo, Texas. He will be remembered by his five great-grandchildren, Kiona, Brindle, Roan, Dunn and Cash Waters.
Carl was preceded in death by one brother, Morris Murphy.
The Rev. Travis Taylor will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street, Morgantown. Friends can call Thursday, Oct. 11 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Carl will be entombed at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
