Mary E. (Allender) Kirts-Brown, 92, passed away Thursday morning Sept. 27, at Brown County Health and Living Center in Nashville. She was a resident of Brown County and a former resident of Inverness, Fla.
Mary was born March 14, 1920 in Brown County to the late Cecil and Ruth (Snyder) Allender. She married Toby Kirts in 1938 in Brown County. He passed away in 1972. Mary then married Earl Brown in 1989 in Inverness, Fla. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2006.
Mary worked at the Nashville House during the 1950s making apple butter. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as caring mother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family, canning from her garden crops, quilting, working crossword puzzles and reading her Bible. Mary was a devoted Christian and attended Belmont Pentecostal Church and the Pentecostal Church in Inverness, Fla.
Mary will be missed by her children, Nancy Williams of Inverness, Fla., Marcus (Nancy) Kirts and Donald (Phyllis) D. Kirts, both of Morgantown, Robert (Mary) Kirts of St. Mary's, Idaho; stepchildren, Cathy (Jack) Baylor of Milan, Darwin "Butch" (Alice) Brown of Columbus, and Gary (Jan) Brown of Terre Haute; three sisters, Dolly (Norman) Wodtke of Plainfield, Irene Schroeder of Nashville, and Beryl Deckard of Inverness, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Melinda Merida, Mark Kirts, Robert Kirts, Tina Keady, Donald Kirts, Elizabeth Miller and Joshua Williams.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Tucker; three brothers, Glen, George and Bob Allender.
Rev. Tim Conboy will conduct a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday Sept. 30, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends can call from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Inverness, Fla.
