A 3-2 victory over Hauser earned Brown County a berth in today’s 4:30 p.m. sectional final against 13th-ranked Columbus North.
The Eagles (11-9) swept the singles matches, and the Jets (3-10) won the doubles matches.
Duncan Ricci downed Will Rose 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Nate Miller beat Joel Benedict 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Shane Franklin topped Zane Urbans 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Hauser’s Josh Elliot and Andrew Boyd downed Bryce Fish and Evan Rose 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Alex Saylor and Kyle Benedict beat Brady Rose and Dakota Patterson 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
North, who won a close match against city rival Columbus East 3-2 to advance, beat Brown County 5-0 during the regular season.
“As a smaller school, it’s nice to be able to get into the finals,” Brown County coach Kevin Roush told The Republic. “It would take a miracle for us to move on. Not that I don’t think our players will be up for it — I think they’re ready to play — it’s just a pretty big foe.”
