Three Brown County sports teams learned who they will face in the upcoming first rounds of sectional play.
The Eagles will face Edinburgh in the tennis sectional, while the boys soccer team drew Edgewood. The girls soccer squad must beat Bloomington North to advance to the second round.
The tennis team beat Edinburgh 4-1 on Sept. 20. If they repeat that effort at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Columbus North, they could play Hauser. Rain forced cancelation of that match during the regular season, but earlier this month the Eagles beat Waldron, a team that bested Hauser. A victory would pit the Eagles against either Columbus East or Columbus North, which is ranked 13th in the state, in the championship round.
The girls soccer team, 8-5-1, has an almost identical record to the 8-5-2 Cougars, but the two teams did not cross paths in the regular season. The two face off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Bloomington South.
In the opening round, which starts at 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at Edgewood, the boys soccer team gets the chance to avenge a 3-0 loss in late August to conference foe Mustangs. The Eagles bring in a winning record of 8-4-2 compared to the Mustangs’ 5-10-1 record. If victorious, the Eagles could play Bloomington North, Bloomington South or Bedford North Lawrence in the championship round.
