Eagles top Edgewood in tennis
Brown County traveled to Edgewood for a Western Indiana Conference battle and won 4-1.
“A great conference win for the Eagles,” stated Coach Kevin Roush in an emailed statement.
Duncan Ricci won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Shane Franklin prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, Bryce Fish and Evan Rose triumphed 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles and Dakota Patterson and Brady Rose rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Nathan Miller fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
“This was a good way to go into a really tough week with four matches starting on Monday with rival Indian Creek,” Rouch stated. “It was evident that we had not played much tennis lately in the slow starts by most of the team. The No. 2 doubles team of Dakota and Brady really set the tone for us by playing well. Duncan and Nate seemed to be on their games, but Nate just came up a little short. Shane once again played solid at No. 3. After really struggling in the opening couple of games, the duo of Bryce and Evan settled down and won, though not as easily as they wanted.”
The Eagles varsity squad improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Eagles won the JV match 4-1.
“The JV team continues to play well at all spots, which translates into a bright future,” Rouch reported.
The next match is at Indian Creek on Monday, Sept. 10.
Eagles grounded in boys soccer
Brown County dropped a 4-1 match to host Morristown, who came in with only one loss on the season.
Lucas Pela scored the Eagles’ lone goal. Reid Johnson recorded 12 saves.
The Eagles dropped to 5-2-1 on the season. Their Western Indiana Conference record stands at 2-1.
The boys team plays Cascade High School on Tuesday at home.
Volleyball team downed by Eastern Greene
The lady Eagles fell three games to one in a volleyball match against 14-2 Eastern Greene on Thursday night.
Brown County won the second game 28-26, but the Thunderbirds proved too strong in the three games needed to record a victory.
The Eagles fell to 9-2 on the season. Their Western Indiana Conference record stands at 3-0.
The Eagles' next match comes against conference opponent Sullivan on Saturday at Sullivan.
