Shirley Joanne Nelson, 77, Plainfield, departed this life July 15, 2012, in Avon.
She was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Rockford, Ill., to John and Irene Allen. She graduated from East High School class of 1952 in Rockford, Ill. After graduating from Ivy Tech in Columbus as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Shirley worked at Atterbury Job Corps for five years, retiring in 1990.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a profound love for children. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, reading and researching her family’s history and genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Nelson; nephew, Dean Nelson; and son, Bruce Nelson.
Shirley is survived by her two sisters, Carolyn Allen of Rockford, Ill., and Judith (Allan) Hamilton of Janesville, Wisc.; daughter, Jerelyn Stanley of Hungary; sons, Mark (Pam) Nelson of Nineveh, Jamie (Lori) Nelson of Indio, Calif., and Scott (Nancy) Nelson of Everett, Wash.; and loving longtime companion, Gregory T. MacNabb.
The memorial service will be announced for a later date.
