Conrad ‘Connie’ Anderson, 76, Warsaw

Conrad “Connie” Anderson, 76, went to be with his Lord Friday, June 22, 2012, at 12:07 p.m. in his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

He lived in Warsaw most of his life.

He was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Chicago to Rudolph C. Anderson and Viola Fern (Longenecker) Anderson. He married Marcia Colleen Marlatt June 11, 1981, in Milford.

He began working as a general laborer at Sun Metal Products and retired 43 years later in 1998 as vice president/general manager. He was able to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe for the company and went to China during the last part of his career. One of his high moments came when he drove a BMW motorcycle at 180 MPH on a test track in Germany.

He spent the first 12 years of his life in Chicago helping run his dad’s filling station and parking garage, which catered to ritzy customers. This was the beginning of his lifelong affection for cars. He and his mother moved to Warsaw where he attended eighth grade at Atwood and graduated salutatorian in Warsaw High School’s class of 1953. He attended Indiana/Purdue in Fort Wayne. He spent summers on his uncle’s farm near Rossville.

He was a member of Dutchtown Brethren Church where he served as treasurer; was a former member of Warsaw Brethren Church where he served as a moderator, trustee and taught Sunday school; had a beautiful voice and sang bass with Praisegiving Quartet for several years; and was a faithful prayer warrior.

He had a love for motorcycles from the age of 17 and continued owning and riding Harleys and lastly his Honda Gold Wing. He was a charter life member of the American Motorcycle Association; bowled on teams for more than 25 years; was an avid reader and domino player; jack of all trades (and master of none according to him); was one of the faithful Breadings Bums; and was a die-hard Cubs fan.

He and Marcia enjoyed 31 great years going to Brown County and were blessed to have a vacation home there for many of those years. It was indeed their favorite place to go.

He looked forward to attending the Indianapolis 500 for nearly 50 years consecutively. Mario Andretti was his favorite driver.

For many years he and Marcia collected vintage cars and traveled to many car auctions.

As his disease progressed, he became content to sit in his recliner watching sports and Fox News.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Anderson of Warsaw; daughter, JoLynn (Rick) Mylin of Warsaw; son, Michael (Stacey) Anderson of Warsaw; five grandchildren, Logan Anderson, Brad Anderson, Shelby Anderson, Kyler Mylin and Tayler Mylin; sister-in-law Ann Baldridge of Warsaw; two nieces, Danielle Brown and RoseAnn Brown of Elkhart; a nephew, John Ford of Springfield, Ohio; three great-nephews, T.J., LaVon and Dominique; six great-nieces, Daitriona, Destiny, Makayla, Ariel, Destiny and faith; several cousins and many friends, as well as Marcia’s Aunt Gwen and Aunt Edie; and his beloved cats, Betty Rose and Martha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph C. and Viola Fern Anderson; a special mother-in-law, Rose Margaret Marlatt; and a friend, (Uncle) George Zajicek.

Visitation was June 26 at Titus Funeral Home in Warsaw. The service was June 27 at Dutchtown Brethren Church in Warsaw with Pastor Jack Worth officiating. He was laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.

Memorials can be made to Dutchtown Brethren Church, 4057 E. 300 North, Warsaw, IN 46582; or Kosciusko Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 1196, Warsaw, IN 46581-1196.
