Mary Opal (Buchele) Harris, 92, Nashville, passed away June 18, 2012, at the Brown County Health & Living Community. She was born March 13, 1920, in Canaan, the daughter of Otto E. and Elmo E. (Ross) Buchele. They preceded her in death.
Mary was a former employee of R.C.A. Bloomington, Charlestown Powder Plant in Charlestown, and The Republic and Bob Evans, both in Columbus. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where she played the piano; Order of Eastern Star chapter 253 Hayden chapter; AARP; senior citizens in Columbus; Van Buren Fire Department where she served on the board, baked and cooked for their fundraisers; and was a caregiver for Alzheimer’s patients.
Her funeral service will be Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, 3999 Mt. Liberty Road, with the Rev. Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive visitors Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
Survivors include sons, Keith Ray Harris of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Dwight Douglas Johnson of Franklin; four grandsons; one granddaughter; several great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins; and Shirley Reed of Bloomington, her caregiver for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben Harris; and two sisters, Francie Meek and Helen J. Copeland.
