Opry arson suspect bonds out; hearing delayed

The man accused of lighting the fire that destroyed the Little Nashville Opry has bonded out of jail.

According to Brown County Jail staff, 75-year-old James D. "Jim" Bowyer bonded out at 8 p.m. Tuesday, less than eight hours after authorities served him a warrant at his farm in Morgan County.

A judge had set bond at $20,000. To get out of jail, Bowyer had to pay $1,000 cash to the jail and $1,000 cash to a bondsman.

Bowyer was arrested on a charge of Class B felony arson, which carries a sentencing range of six to 20 years in the Indiana Department of Correction.

His arrest on Tuesday resulted from a lengthy investigation by local, state and federal authorities after the Sept. 19, 2009 fire at the Little Nashville Opry on State Road 46 West outside of Nashville.

Bowyer's initial court hearing had been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today, but because he bonded out, the date has been pushed back to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20.
