Letter: Irony instances regarding voting laws, ID, etc.

To the editor:

According to President Biden, recent updates to voting laws in Iowa and Georgia are “un-American, sick, despicable” as well as reminiscent of Jim Crow laws. Legacy media, woke corporations, leftist politicians and numerous celebrities dutifully echoed these sentiments. Surprisingly, the Washington Post, a reliable Democrat mouthpiece, gave the President four Pinocchios (a big lie) for his comments. Here are a few facts to consider:

Georgia requires some form of voter identification in order to vote by mail, such as a driver’s license number. This is similar to requirements in New Jersey and California, while Virginia requires a photo ID and Social Security number.

Georgia and Iowa allow no-excuse absentee voting by mail. Biden’s home state of Delaware forbids no-excuse absentee voting by mail, as do New York, Connecticut and a dozen other states.

Georgia expanded early in-person voting by four days. Iowa did reduce early voting from 29 to 20 days, still more days than allowed by Delaware, New York and 18 other states. Twelve states forbid early in-person voting.

The left only attacks voting laws in red states while remaining silent about much stricter laws in blue states.

Many voices castigating Georgia and Iowa voting laws and calling for boycotts are more than happy to do business with China while resisting attempts to stamp out Chinese slave labor practices. I was always critical of German companies that readily did business with Hitler, but woke American companies, Hollywood and professional sports are no better.

Finally, irony alert for your consideration:

MLB is moving the All-Star game from Atlanta in protest of the updated laws, yet baseball teams require ID to pick up tickets.

Chuck Schumer invited Major League Baseball to play the All-Star game in New York which has much stricter voting laws.

Georgia-based Coca-Cola requires an ID to attend the annual shareholders meeting.
