John Dale Watson Miller, 84, of Franklin, IN passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born Sept. 22, 1936 in Whitesburg, Kentucky to Woodrow and Lettie (Francis) Miller. He married Kathryn (Roberts) Miller on August 24, 1956, she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2002. He later married Barbara (Weaver) Moon Miller on Feb. 14, 2003, she survives.

He was a 1954 graduate of Whitesburg High School and attended Purdue University. He was a United States Veteran of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the U.S. Airforce having served in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.

He had worked for Paul Jordan Ventilation Equipment in Indianapolis, IN, Reliance Electric in Columbus, IN and Martin Marietta in Florida. He also owned and operated his own petroleum business Miller’s Texaco in Lakeland, FL.

He was a member and Past Master of Bargersville Masonic Lodge #679, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and served as a tour guide, Murat Shrine and was a member of the 500 Club Unit, Johnson County Shrine Club and the Mini-Mystics, American Legion Post 66 in Brown County, Franklin American Legion Post 205.

Mr. Miller participated in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2017. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include his loving wife Barbara Miller of Franklin, IN, two sons Terry L. Miller (Yvonne) of Brown County, IN and Jeffrey D. Miller of Salem, MO, grandchildren Amanda Bowman (Tim), Shaun Miller (Tiffany), Desirae Becraft (Kyle), Josh Miller and Kera Hayworth (Kyle), great grandchildren Whitnea, Kinsey, Brooke, Maddison, Deacon, Mason, Olivia, Trevor, Jaxson, Keavenly, Blake, Kierstin, Alexis, Gunner, Jackson, great-great- grandchildren Kade, Maddox and Kennah, step son Donald “Jake” Moon (Kim) of Akin, SC, brothers Lloyd Miller of Miamisburg, OH, Charles Miller of Miamisburg, OH and David Miller (Donna) of Miamisburg, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Billie Miller, sisters Ada King, Anne Vanderpool and Patsy Miller.

The Reverend Andy Kinsey will conduct a service on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/john-miller. Military honors will follow the service being conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.

Friends may call Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the mortuary where a Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by Bargersville Masonic Lodge 679.

Facial covering or mask and social distancing is required for those attending.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children at www.donate.lovetotheresuce.org, or to the charity of their choice.
