SCHOOL NEWS: School board votes on reorganization, appointments

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees voted to reorganize their board leadership and committees during their first meeting of 2021.

The school board voted to keep Carol Bowden as president and Vicki Harden as vice president. New board member Amy Oliver was voted in as secretary and the president of the district’s board of finance. Steve Miller Jr. was selected to serve as the secretary and treasurer for the board of finance.

The board also voted to keep Julie Smith as the corporation treasurer, Jill Wray and Renee Seacat as the deputy treasurers and Seacat as the board’s recording secretary. Seamus Boyce was approved as the corporation’s attorney.

The meeting dates and times will remain the same for 2021 with the board meeting at 6 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of every month with an executive session, if needed, starting at 5 p.m. before.

Board compensation will be $2,000 this year. Members will receive $112 per meeting and $62 per special session.

The bid opening committee for the district was voted in with the following members: Director of Maintenance and Grounds Jimmy Jackson; treasurer Smith, Wray or Seacat; Director of Technology David Phelps and Superintendent Laura Hammack.

Bowden and board member Stephanie Kritzer will serve as the appointments to the district’s insurance committee. Oliver will serve as the finance committee appointment with Harden serving as the representative on the district’s health and wellness committee and the Birth to Five Committee.

Bowden will continue to serve as the board appointment to the Nashville Redevelopment Commission and the county’s Area Plan Commission. Oliver will serve as the board’s appointment on the county’s redevelopment commission.
