Dr. Barbara L. Hannaford, 61, of Plainfield, passed away July 7, 2020. She was born Nov. 9, 1958 to the late Henry and Margaret (Hart) Pannell in San Diego, CA.
She received her BA degree from Indiana State University and her Masters and Doctorate degree from Valdosta State University. Her teaching career began at Seeger Memorial High School in West Lebanon, IN. She continued teaching when she moved to Georgia, and during her 27 year career she was promoted to an administrative position and finally to Director of Curriculum Instruction until she retired in 2019.
She moved back to Indiana to be close to her grandchildren and volunteered at various elementary schools in Plainfield. During this time she also taught online college course studies for Valdosta State University. She will be fondly remembered for her service and dedication to education.
Barbara is survived by her son, Mike B. (Jamie) Tucker; two daughters, Maggie E. Tucker and Ashley M. (Michael) Hughes; a sister, Nancy (Garry) Miller; father and mother-in-law, J.O. and Jackie Hannaford; six grandchildren, Jordan, Lilly, Cain, Graham, Grayson and Nolan; and two nieces, Cara and Laura.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Hannaford.
Funeral services were held at 7 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2020 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends called from 5 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m. Due to social distancing seating was limited for the service. Memorial services will be planned for later in Folkston, GA.

Abigail is a Brown County native dedicated to the community in which she has been raised. She joined the Brown County Democrat newsroom in 2019 while studying English at IUPUC, where she graduated in May 2020. After working as the news advertising coordinator for nearly two years, she became reporter in September of 2021. She took over as editor in the fall of 2022.
