VAN BUREN TWP. — A 38-year-old Jackson County man was injured after he sneezed while driving on Becks Grove Road, causing his vehicle to leave the road and ultimately flip.

The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. Jan. 20 on Becks Grove Road near Ogle Road.

Christopher White, of State Road 135, Freetown, told police he was driving west on Becks Grove when he sneezed and looked away for a “brief moment,” says an accident report by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Gibson. His vehicle left the right side of the road, and due to a ditch being there, White was unable to get back on the road, the report said.

The vehicle continued down the ditch and struck a mailbox before hitting a culvert. That forced the vehicle to flip, and it continued for another 50 feet before coming to a rest on its roof, the report said.

White reported an injury to his left hand and was treated by EMS at the scene. He refused transport by EMS and was instead taken by a family member to the hospital, the report said.

White was wearing a seat belt. His vehicle was towed.

Gibson estimated in his report that the crash caused between $2,500 and $5,000 in damage for the owner of the property where the crash occurred in the 8200 block of Becks Grove Road.
