SCHOOL NEWS: Board approves staff changes, donations

The Brown County Schools Board of Trustees approved the following on Nov. 7, Nov. 21, Dec. 5 and Dec. 19:

  • The 2019-2020 contract between the school board and the Brown County Educators’ Association.
  • Non-certified staff raises retroactive to July 1, 2019.
  • Administrative raises retroactive to July 1, 2019.
  • Brown County Schools’ suicide prevention policy.
  • Professional leave requests for the following people to go to Eminence, Kentucky, with ROI for the Eminence School District “On Fire” tour Nov. 13 and 14: Laura Hammack, Christy Wrightsman, Deborah Harman, Brian Garman, Trent Austin, David Phelps, Matt Stark, Mitzi Garman, Kirk Wrightsman, Alecia Adams, Paige Burton, Hilary Frye, Barb Kelp, Jim McFall, Donna Alwine and Amanda Austin. All expenses were paid by the Ready Schools grant.
  • Maternity leave notice for BCS occupational therapist Laura Martinez beginning approximately Dec. 20 and ending the last day of the 2019-2020 school year. To cover her leave, the district entered into a contract with Soliant Health for the delivery of occupational services from Jan. 6 to May 23.
  • A $500 donation to Helmsburg Elementary School from an anonymous donor.
  • Separating Brown County High School assistant track coach Connor Bell, effective Oct. 29. This was not a termination. Lacey Bryant was appointed to replace him, $1,535 stipend, effective Nov. 6.
  • Separating Brown County Intermediate School paraprofessional Lisa Lewis, effective Nov. 8. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCIS track coach Chasity Smith, effective Oct. 22. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCHS assistant track coach Emily Lewellen, effective Oct. 30. This was not a termination.
  • Separating BCHS Spanish teacher Teresa Hendey, effective date to be determined. This was not a termination. Pedro De Leon Mejia was appointed to replace her, master’s degree, Level A ($42,000) with zero years of experience, full-time with benefits, effective Dec. 16.
  • Appointing BCS bus monitor Robin Dunn, part-time without benefits, $10.75 per hour, four hours per day, effective Nov. 4. This is a replacement for Kathy Gipson.
  • Appointing BCHS Bring Change to Mind Club sponsor Stephanie Quillen, $868 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Appointing BCHS show choir sponsor Kristi Billings, $1,750 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Appointing BCJHS show choir sponsor Daniel Lyng, $1,303 stipend, effective Aug. 5.
  • Appointing BCJHS wrestling coach Andrew Reed, $1,598 stipend, effective Nov. 10. He is a replacement for Jason Vaught.
  • Appointing BCHS boys freshman basketball coaches Bryce Boyer and Connor Bell, $2,684 split stipend, effective Nov. 6.
  • The proposed Career Resource Center of Brown County 2020-2021 budget.
  • A $500 donation to Sprunica Elementary School from an anonymous donor.
  • The 2019 amended bus resolution to allow for the district to purchase an additional school bus to cover a route which the district picked up this school year.
  • A recommendation to declare 50 teacher laptops as salvage to allow for the laptops to be posted for auction.
  • Appointing BCS transportation department bus driver Cassie Normile, $88 per day, 180 days, full-time with benefits, effective Nov. 21. She is a replacement for Jackie Arnold.
  • Appointing BCS transportation department bus driver Brian Faulkner, $88 per day, 180 days, full-time with benefits, effective Nov. 21. He is a replacement for Michelle Hatchett.
  • Appointing BCHS varsity baseball coach Randy Minniear, $4,134 stipend. He is a replacement for Ryan Wilcoxen.
  • Maternity leave notice for Alyson Hanus beginning approximately April 3, 2020 and ending at the conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year.
  • A $700 donation to HES from Joey Dallas.
  • Appointing BCHS business teacher Ryan Crenshaw, bachelor’s degree, Level A ($38,000) with zero years of experience, full-time with benefits, effective Dec. 17. He is a replacement for Vince McCann.
  • Appointing BCIS fifth- and sixth-grade boys basketball coach Justin Dodd, $1,986 stipend, effective Dec. 2. He is a replacement for Ryan Oliver and Brand Williamson.
  • A $500 donation to BCHS Life Skills from Jennifer Johnson.
  • Transfer of the SES speech therapist job classification for Molly Koontz from full-time with benefits to part-time without benefits, Tuesdays and Thursdays and every other Wednesday from 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for approximately 48 total school days. This transfer was done at Koontz’s request, Hammack said during the Dec. 19 meeting.
  • Separating BCS bus monitor Vona Dunn, effective Dec. 3. This job was eliminated.
  • Appointing BCJHS science teacher Sarah Hale, master’s degree, Level A ($42,000) with zero years of experience, full-time with benefits, effective Jan. 6. She is a replacement for Erich Nolan.
