Letter: Help develop watershed plan for Lake Monroe

To the editor:

Are you concerned about Lake Monroe? Come to this public forum: Jan. 14, 2020, 6:45 p.m., Brown County Public Library.

Would you be surprised to know there is no comprehensive management plan for Lake Monroe? The water that drains into the lake (ie., the watershed) covers 415 square miles, including land in Monroe, Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Bartholomew counties. Because of its size, location and different purposes, the watershed falls under many different jurisdictions including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), the U.S. Forest Service, Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the counties in which it is located.

You can help.

Friends of Lake Monroe has been awarded a grant to develop a comprehensive watershed management plan for Lake Monroe. If you swim, boat or fish in Lake Monroe, or simply enjoy the woods, wildlife and fauna, you can help! The Leagues of Women Voters of Brown County and Bloomington-Monroe County and Friends of Lake Monroe are sponsoring a public forum on Lake Monroe to get your input.

Join us Jan. 14th, 2020 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library.
