To the editor:

The League of Women Voters Brown County extends sincere appreciation to all those who made the 2019 printing possible of the “Who’s Where in Brown County, 2019 Directory of Local Government and Community Resources.”

A big thanks to the Brown County Community Foundation for a generous grant, and to the League of Women Voters of Indiana for a grant supporting this community project. Thanks to the local business sponsors including Access Brown County, Austin Insurance, Bright and Williamson Insurance, the Brown County Humane Society, Brown County Music Center, Brown County Playhouse, Brown County YMCA, Carpenter Hills O’Brown Real Estate, Gene Elias Executive Consultant, Farmers Insurance Agency, Health for “U,” Jones Law Office, Mr. Copy, Organized Solutions, Re/Max Team and Zieg LeDoux & Assoc. Inc.

LWVBC wishes to apologize and correct some errors in the 2019 Who’s Where. On page 1, the LWVBC email is incorrect; it should be [email protected].

On page 12, board of health member Cynthia S. Rose is RN and attorney (attorney was omitted) and Jeffery Cambridge is incorrectly listed as an attorney; he is a registered pharmacist (RPh) with an MBA.

On page 32, we are told there is no longer a food pantry at Shepherd Hills Lutheran Church, so this listing should not be included under food pantries.

If you find any additional errors, or have suggestions for inclusion in future editions, please let us know: [email protected].

A version of “Who’s Where” with corrections will be posted to lwvbrowncounty.org. Printed copies may be picked up at the Brown County Public Library. If you need more copies, please contact us: [email protected], as long as supplies last.

If you’d like to donate to LWVBC to help with this and other community projects please send checks to LWVBC, P.O. Box 74, Nashville, IN 47448. If you want to volunteer with LWVBC or want to become a member, please email or contact us via the website, lwvbrowncounty.org.

Were you wondering what a septic tank looks like and how it works? Do you know what household products to use — and to avoid — to protect your septic system? Should you grow grass on your septic field? How often does a septic system need to be pumped out? What are the hazards if a septic system isn’t working?

Wonder no more! Attend the Septic Summit Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Brown County Fairgrounds, starting at 5 p.m. with an equipment show. Local and state professionals will be available to answer your questions from Brown County Soil and Water, the Purdue Extension and more starting at 6 p.m. Trucks and equipment will be on site to see. Raffle prizes will include $100 gift certificates to help residents get their septic system cleaned out, and gift baskets will include septic-safe products. For more information, see the League of Women Voters website, lwvbrowncounty.org.
