HAMBLEN TWP. — A Brown County man has been charged with multiple felonies related to drug possession after a search warrant was served on his vehicle and home April 13

Sheriff Scott Southerland stopped Mark Osburn, 43, at the intersection of Bear Wallow and Gatesville roads for the vehicle search.

Det. Paul Henderson reported finding two cellophane wrappers in the center console. One contained five peach-colored round pills that were later identified as Naloxone, a Schedule 3 controlled substance, the affidavit states.

The second wrapper had several folded paper packages inside. One had a substance on it that later field-tested positive for heroin. Three others field-tested positive for methamphetamine, police reported.

Southerland also reported finding a glass smoking pipe in the vehicle as well as four syringes, the affidavit states.

The car was seized and Osburn was arrested. Police then went to Osburn’s home on East Shore Drive.

In the master bedroom, police reported finding a two bent spoons with dried up cotton balls that were consistent with prepping drugs for injection. There was also a pair of digital scales in the bedroom.

In a police interview, Osburn admitted that the drugs found in the vehicle were heroin and meth. He reported getting his heroin from Indianapolis, the police report said. He told Henderson he generally purchases an “eight ball,” but if others wanted drugs, he would buy more since it was cheaper to buy larger quantities, the affidavit states.

Henderson reported that Osburn was “remorseful.” He said he tried to regulate his heroin use to a gram or less a day.

Henderson told jail staff to give Osburn medicine to help with withdrawals, the report said.

Osburn was charged on April 15 with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a syringe, all Level 6 felonies. He also was charged with possession of paraphernalia, Class C misdemeanor.
