Driver in crash charged with OWI

JACKSON TWP. — An Indianapolis man who was the driver involved in a crash earlier this year now faces misdemeanor charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The crash happened in the 1100 block of State Road 45 just before 5 a.m. on May 5, according to a probable cause affidavit by Sgt. Bill Southerland with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Daniel Schroeder, 28, admitted to driving. Southerland reported smelling alcohol on Schroeder, that his speech was slurred, his eyes were red/watery, his manual dexterity was poor and his balance was unsteady, according to the affidavit.

A breath test showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.23, almost three times the legal limit.

Charges were filed against Schroeder on Oct. 29. He faces three misdemeanors for driving a vehicle while intoxicated.
