BELMONT — Four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on State Road 46 West Nov. 14 as sleet started to fall and freeze on the road.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner responded to the crash just before 10:30 p.m. just east of Bambi Lane. The crash was blocking the entire road, his accident report states.

Two male drivers had head injuries in two vehicles. One of them, James Allen, 27, of Nashville, also had a lower arm/hand injury, the report states.

Allen was driving west on State Road 46 West when the crash occurred. Tire marks in the slush on the road indicated that he lost traction, the report said. Allen’s truck appeared to have crossed the center line into the eastbound lane, going perpendicular in the lane of travel. That’s when the front passenger side of his truck collided with an oncoming SUV driven by James Henderson, 84, of Columbus.

Allen told Magner he did not remember how the crash happened. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance for immediate treatment.

Henderson had an apparent arm injury along with possible head and neck injuries. He was unable to give a statement at the scene, the report states. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Henderson’s front seat passenger, Mary Henderson, 80, of Columbus, and backseat passenger Michael Henderson, 22, of Illinois, were also transported by ambulance for general soreness and pain complaints.

Robert Kavelman, 53, of Columbus, was driving east and was unable to stop his vehicle from colliding with Henderson’s SUV. His vehicle came to a stop in the grass along the east lane of the road, the report states.

Kavelman and his passenger were uninjured and refused treatment at the scene.

He told police that he saw Allen’s truck enter the eastbound lane and he saw Henderson’s vehicle braking before the crash.

The Nashville Police Department and Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene. All vehicles were towed.
