Letter: Inmate shares concerns with teeth, dental care

To the editor:

I have been in the Brown County jail since July 11, 2017. I had requested dental work for pain in teeth that were in a bad way. After months of on and off of antibiotic and some pain relievers, not getting x-rays to see the condition of the teeth and their roots, the dentist pulled one on 1-20-18 and another dentist pulled two sometime in 2017 without checking to see how the gums healed.

The tooth I had pulled 1-20-18, now I have a piece of bone or root of the molar sticking through and out of my gum. One dentist said he would and could fill my front teeth, but they didn’t have all the tools. The other dentist said the filling would last a few years and the filler cost $125 and he will not, would not fix my teeth but he will pull them.

I want my teeth filled, not pulled. The pain of this bone piece is real! If it only lasts a few years that’s OK! I will be home then and can go to family dentist. Needing x-rays/no help.

Points are the need for dental x-rays and the fixing of the front tooth so I don’t lose it. Both dentists said front teeth can be filled, so why won’t Brown County jail’s dentist fix my teeth and check gum where bone or root sticks out? No one will examine by x-ray. I can’t afford to keep seeing dentists and all they will do is pull my teeth when both said they could be filled.

Thank you.
