Courthouse feasibility study presentation set

DLZ Engineering will present its preliminary report about what they think should be the future of the Brown County Courthouse at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2.

Commissioner Diana Biddle said the report will be presented to the commissioners county council during a special, joint meeting that evening. A final report is scheduled to be presented in another special joint meeting, at 6 p.m. Monday, June 4.

Last fall, the commissioners hired DLZ Engineering to study the future of the county’s justice needs for the 20 to 40 years.

Money approved for courthouse security officer

The Brown County Courthouse could have a new security officer stationed on the first floor by June.

At the April 16 Brown County Council meeting, the council unanimously approved moving $48,000 to fund the new position, including benefits. Of that money, $10,000 will be used to pay a part-time person to cover for the security officer if he or she needs to be away, but that job will not include benefits.

Judge Judith Stewart wrote the job description, which is listed in the Martketplace section of this paper. Council President Keith Baker said the hope is to have the security officer hired and working by the first of June.

The person hired will be paid $29,000 to work the rest of this year.

The new security officer will be stationed in the lower-level hallway where the vending machines are. They will be moved to make space for the officer’s work station.
