The Brown County boys 4×400-meter relay team was less than a second away from beating a school record that was set 32 years ago in Saturday’s Talon Relays.

The team of Isaiah Keefauver, Dale Phelps Jackson McPheeters and Wyatt Wyman won the 4×400 in 3 minutes, 27.83 seconds to help the Eagles sit 7 1/2 points behind Terre Haute South in third place. The team results weren’t official until Monday because there was confusion in the field-event scoring, so Brown County could still move up or down.

The Eagle girls are currently sitting in sixth place, but are just 2 1/2 points behind Seymour.

Marino Dolph, Keefauver, McPheeters and Wyman also won the distance medley relay in 10:47.55.

Other top-finishes for the boys team were Evan Fleischman and Ricky Stanley, who placed third in the pole vault (18 feet), Logan Huddleston and Jackson McPheeters placing fourth in the long jump (35-11 ½) and Layton Mosier and Ronnie Carr, who placed seventh in the shot put (70-3 ½). Mosier and Jordan Dolph also finished fifth in the discus by throwing a combined 203-1.

Top-eight finishes on the track came from the 4×1600 relay team of Timmy Kilburn, Aaron McCann, Curtis Higgins and Cameron Fox that placed fifth in 22:09.62. The 4×100 team of Nick Ponzo, Fleischman, Huddleston and Ricky Stanley placed seventh in 48.43. Phelps placed fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.15), and Marino Dolph took fourth in the 3,200 (10:13.19). Kilburn took seventh with a 10:55.87 time.

Huddleston, Stanley Ponzo and Fleischman joined in the 4×200 (1:41.46) to place fifth. Phelps, Dalton Hendrick, Jordan Dolph and Jimmy McCormick placed fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay (45.86). Hedrick, Reid Davis, Ronnie Carr rand Mosier placed fifth in the 4×100 throwers relay (57.37).

“Our team really brought it today,”Brown County boys coach Kirk Wrightsman said. “… Just to get something different for one weekend is really cool.”

Anna Fleetwood, Kaylen Combest, Emma DeBord and Kathleen McCann earned a first-place finish for the girls in the 4×400 relay (4:19.91). Halie Lunsford and Vivien Crimmins finished fourth in the high jump (9-0), while Madison Smith and Myah Woodard placed eighth in the shot (56-3). Bella Hobbs and Natalie Suding were fourth in pole vault (14-0).

Other top runners for the girls were Vivien Crimmins, Abigail Hollander, Evey Crimmins and Lunsford finishing fifth in the 4×100 relay (55.82). Vivien Crimmins also took second in the 100 hurdles in 16.87, and Emelia Koester placed fourth in the 3,200 (12:24.77).

The 4×200 team of Hollander, McCann, Evey Crimmins and Coralynne Robinson placed third (1:58.36). Vivien Crimmins, Robinson, Evey Crimins and Lunsford aslo placed third in the shuttle hurdles (43.83). Suding, Bella Hobbs, Robinson and Olivia Lee were sixth in the sprint medley (2:13.37).

“Our girls came out and performed well,” Brown County girls coach Jay Myers said. “We had a lot of (personal records) across the board. This meet is a unique meet with the relays and things like that, so sometimes we’re asking girls to do things a little different.”
