Richard D. Hess, 83, of West Lafayette, passed away at 10:37 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at University Place.
Born in eastern Pennsylvania, he moved to Indiana as a child, attended high school in Kokomo, and in 1956, graduated from Butler University. He was the son of the late Martin J. Hess and Belva (Pealer) Hess. Dick honorably served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Sara Van Arsdale on Dec. 22, 1956, in Indianapolis; she survives.
Dick worked for Kimberly-Clark Corp. for 31 years in sales and marketing; he retired in 1991. He and Sara then moved to Brown County.
He was a watercolorist, a past president of Indiana Heritage Arts and a signature member of the Watercolor Society of Indiana. He loved to play the ukulele, banjo and guitar; collect antiques; and enjoyed country music and genealogy. He was a proud member of Brown County Art Gallery, avid fan of the Butler Bulldogs and the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife are his children, Todd Hess (wife, Gudrun) of Offenbach, Germany, Laura Hess of Lafayette and Richard Hess (wife, Heidi) of Hartland, WI; a sister, Janet K. Hess; and four grandchildren, Max Hess, Katy Olson, Nate Hess and Will Hess.
Private family service is planned.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice benefiting children.
