LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Sheriff’s deputies in North Carolina have arrested a man wanted on multiple charges after a woman was reported missing.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday that 43-year-old Brian Edward Leatherman of Vale is charged with first-degree forcible rape, first-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor domestic violence protective order violation, among other crimes.
Deputies say Leatherman was found sleeping in the basement of his parents’ home on Monday and was arrested without incident. He is jailed without bond, and it’s not known if he has an attorney.
WBTV in Charlotte reported authorities said Leatherman broke into a Catawba County home and forcibly removed the woman, who was reported missing on April 8. Investigators said the woman jumped from a speeding vehicle Interstate 40 last Thursday and was hospitalized.
