Letter: Literacy coalition thankful for $10,000 grant award

To the editor:

This year, the Fab 50 has chosen the Brown County Literacy Coalition to receive their generous grant of $10,000. Our gratitude for this gift is beyond measure.

In granting us these funds, the Fab 50 have recognized the critical importance of promoting and supporting early childhood reading development. We will be applying this grant to our Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library annual fund, which currently provides approximately 550 children from birth to age 5 with a free book-a-month. It will help us to fund our current book distribution as we reach out to sign up the many Brown County children who are not yet a part of Dolly’s program. This program requires approximately $16,000 per year to cover the cost of books and postage.

We will also be using these funds to provide child-protection training, sex-abuse training, and criminal background checks for all of our tutors and volunteers.

Through their generosity, Fab 50 is helping to ensure the lifelong success of our Brown County kids. Therefore, on behalf of Brown County’s littlest citizens, we thank you, each and every member of Fab 50.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Bolte, president, Brown County Literacy Coalition
