Two Brown County men were treated at the scene of a crash at State Road 46 East and Salt Creek Road March 14.

The crash happened at about 9 a.m., according to an accident report by Lt. Mike Moore with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. A crashed SUV was facing east in the westbound lane of 46 East and a Jeep was on its side in a ditch over an embankment on the north side of the road, he wrote.

The driver of the SUV, Emmett Smith, 22, of Nashville, told police he was eastbound on 46 East after pulling out of the gas station when he came up behind the Jeep. He said the Jeep had snow blowing off of the top of it and that he was having mechanical problems with his SUV, causing him to look down at the gauges.

Smith’s SUV hit the rear end of the Jeep, driven by Christopher R. Jackson, 46, of Nashville.

Jackson told police he was eastbound on Salt Creek Road and had also just left a gas station when the crash occurred. He said the SUV came up behind him and slammed into his Jeep, shoving him across the center line, over the westbound lane, over an embankment and down into the ditch. The Jeep rolled onto its right side before coming to a stop, the report states.

A witness called 911 and attempted to help the people involved in the accident.

Both vehicles were towed. Jackson and Smith were treated at the scene. Smith reported having a wrist injury and Jackson reported being sore over his entire body. Both refused transport to the hospital for treatment.

The drivers were wearing seat belts.
