MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities say one man was killed and two firefighters were injured in an overnight fire in Tennessee.

News outlets report Memphis firefighters responded to the Whispering Pines Apartments around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. Lt. Wayne Cooke says the structure was too unstable to enter, so firefighters raised two aerial trucks. They brought the fire under control in around an hour, although crews were still at the scene at 5 a.m.

A man’s body was recovered from a second-floor apartment, but his identity has not been released. Sixteen apartments were affected.

One firefighter was hospitalized with a muscle spasm. It’s unclear why the other one was hospitalized. Their conditions are unknown.
