OCEAN CITY, Md. — A Delaware woman has been convicted of injecting her father with heroin before he died in a Maryland hotel room.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports 29-year-old Justeen Nichole Whittaker of Dover was given a 10-year sentence with all but three suspended on a manslaughter charge Wednesday.

The Worcester County State Attorney’s Office said Ocean City detectives responding to a report of a cardiac arrest at a hotel room in October 2017 found 50-year-old Nathaniel Whittaker, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found items indicative of heroin consumption and learned he shared the room with his daughter.

Prosecutors said Justeen Whittaker told police her father asked her to inject him because he was too intoxicated to do it himself. An autopsy determined he died of a fentanyl overdose.
