LOS ANGELES — Famed architect Frank Gehry has been chosen to design an expansion of a performing arts school campus in downtown Los Angeles.
The Colburn School project will be just blocks away from the Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The school’s president, Sel Kardan, said Wednesday that the extension will include an 1,100-seat concert hall, a 700-seat studio theater, and a 100-seat cabaret-style performance room.
Gehry is also currently designing a separate mixed-use space near his gleaming Disney Hall, which became a centerpiece of LA’s downtown revival when it opened in 2003.
Dating back to the 1950s, Colburn School has about 1,600 students with a focus on music and dance.
