Police say a Brown County woman punched a relative after she would not tell her what narcotic she had snorted.

The relative called police at about 10:30 p.m. Feb. 28 from the 8500 block of State Road 135 North. She said that Candance N. Chelf, 27, was in the basement.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Stargell wrote that he immediately noticed Chelf was under the influence of some type of narcotic. While walking through the house, Stargell reported seeing a plant, drink coasters, an insulin epi-pen and other items on the floor that appeared to have been thrown.

Chelf told Stargell she had been sober since Jan. 1 and that she had not taken anything. She said she was upset because the relative was withholding medicine and her phone from her. Chelf admitted to punching the woman in the shoulder, “but not very hard,” the affidavit said.

She said she wanted to go to bed, but the woman would not let her have her medicine. Stargell called EMS to check Chelf. He was told that Chelf took 10 Tylenol pills, two tablets for her insomnia and her suboxone.

Police found no drugs or evidence of drug use in the home or in Chelf’s purse, the report said.

She was booked into the Brown County jail. On March 1,she was charged with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
