Betty Ruth (Detering) Bright was born March 4, 1924, near Bicknell, Knox County, Indiana. She graduated from Freelandville High School, president of the class of ’42, and entered nurses training at Protestant Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She participated in nurses cadet training with the Navy, but graduated in September 1945, after the end of the war, and returned to civilian life where she continued her career as a nurse.
In 1947 she met and married Robert Lee (“Robin” and “Bob”) Bright of Nashville Indiana, who was then a D.J. at a radio station in Evansville. They had two daughters, Ruth (1955) and Beth (1957). In 1957, they moved to Florida, where Betty spent the next 20 years caring lovingly for her family. She and Bob later moved to Boston, then Florida, then Indiana, back to Florida, and finally to Indiana in 1986, settling down in Nashville until 2011, when they went to Virginia to stay with elder daughter, Ruth.
Betty was preceded in death in 2013 by her husband of 65 years, and by her two sisters, Elnora Reedy and Mary Detering; and a brother, Don Detering.
She is survived by her daughters, Ruth and Beth; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Nashville United Methodist Church, 36 S. Jefferson St. in Nashville. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
