Three visitors from Jeffersonville must appear in Brown Circuit Court to face charges that they illegally consumed alcohol in August.

At around 6 a.m. Aug. 20, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht conducted a traffic stop in the 4500 block of State Road 46 East for failure to dim his headlights, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Eggebrecht noted the vehicle’s license plate was also expired. He reported smelling marijuana while speaking with the driver, Kaliyan J. Gentry, 18. Gentry had three passengers in her car.

The occupants said there was no marijuana in the vehicle and that they had been partying that night, the affidavit states. While searching the car, police reported finding a bottle of liquor under the driver’s seat and a passenger seat. Officers did not find marijuana, but they did find an opened pack of flavored cigars.

Based on the location of the bottle, Gentry and her passengers were given breath tests. Gentry’s blood-alcohol content was 0.34. Passenger Julianna M. Scott, 20, had a BAC of 0.087 and passenger Ariana R. Boyd, 18, had a BAC of 0.031, according to the affidavit.

Gentry, Scott and Boyd were all issued summons for minor consumption. The bottle of alcohol was poured out and the vehicle was towed. They were taken to a nearby gas station to wait for a ride, according to the affidavit. All three were charged Oct. 17 with illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, Class C misdemeanor.

A third passenger had a BAC of 0.001 and was not issued a summons.
