BURLINGTON, Vt. — A developer has proposed a plan to replace an iconic Burlington restaurant with a new hotel.

The Burlington Free Press reports Richard Bove Jr. has submitted plans with the city to tear down the former Bove’s Restaurant and construct a hotel. The restaurant closed in 2015 after operating for 74 years. Bove has proposed a 76-room hotel along with a commercial space to replace it.

Bove also plans to purchase a lot near the property in order to build a 20-unit apartment complex. Renovations to the Stannard house, a historic structure that houses apartments and a commercial space, are included in Bove’s proposal as well.

Community and Economic Development Office director Noelle MacKay has recommended Burlington sell the lot for $500,000.

A review has been planned for later this month.
