MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Authorities are investigating the death of a 7-week-old girl in McMinnville.

McMinnville Police said Tuesday that authorities were dispatched to an apartment for an infant who wasn’t breathing on Nov. 21.

Police say first responders tried to resuscitate her and that she was taken to a local hospital before being transferred by helicopter to a Portland hospital for treatment of a traumatic brain injury.

Police say the infant died at the hospital Nov. 24.

Police say officers remained involved because the circumstances of the infant’s injuries were not consistent with the explanation given by the primary caregivers.

Medical personnel determined the infant sustained abusive head trauma that led to her death. The case is being investigated as a homicide pending final autopsy results from the Oregon Medical Examiner’s office.
