ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Vermont State Police fire investigators are looking into the circumstances of a fire that destroyed an unoccupied building on the property of a state trooper in the town of Stannard.
Officials say trooper Stephen McGranaghan has been suspended from his job with pay.
The fire on McGranaghan’s property was reported shortly after midnight Monday. Police say McGranaghan had a permit to burn brush on his property, but did not have a permit to burn the building.
State Police Lt. Matt Amadon, the commander of the St. Johnsbury Barracks, Tuesday confirmed McGranaghan’s suspension.
The results of the investigation will be turned over to the Attorney General’s office.
McGranaghan, who has been a trooper since 2009, did not return an email seeking comment.
There were no injuries.
