INDOT: 135 North opening delayed

MORGANTOWN — State Road 135 North won’t open today as the Indiana Department of Transportation had hoped.

INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity said the plan had been to pave over the new culvert just south of Morgantown at Farm Road early this week, when the weather was beautiful.

But the subcontractor who was going to do the paving didn’t show up until this morning, and it’s raining, so paving can’t be done today, he said.

Now, it’s probably going to be sometime next week before the road can reopen, he said. In addition to paving, the guardrails have to be put up and striping done.

“We had hoped to be open today, if not yesterday, had everybody showed up on time,” Maginity said this morning.

State Road 135 North — which is a main route between Brown County and Indianapolis — has been closed in one of four places in Brown County and southern Morgan County since the first week of April, forcing detours onto county roads.

The highway south of Morgantown also was closed for several months last year after a large vehicle hit and damaged the iron bridge over Indian Creek.
