A traffic stop for a broken headlight resulted in a Bloomington man being charged with possession of marijuana.

Nashville Police Officer Brenton Barrow stopped Evan M. Smith, 25, on State Road 46 West near Green Valley Church Road on Oct. 22, according to a probable cause affidavit by Officer Michael Williams.

When Williams approached the vehicle on the passenger side, he reported smelling marijuana.

Smith told the officers he had a small amount of marijuana inside a backpack on the front passenger seat, the affidavit states. Williams reported finding one gram in the backpack, plus a small marijuana cigarette in the center console.

Smith was issued a summons and was released. He was charged Nov. 16 with misdemeanor drug possession.
