GNAW BONE — A Nashville man was arrested Oct. 29 after a woman told police he hit her in the face and stomach with a nail gun.

The victim told police that James R. Melton, 40, also hit the door frame in her home with a nail gun during the confrontation. She said she had “extreme pain” in her face and scratches on her stomach and leg, along with bruising on her arms, according to a probable cause affidavit by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Colton Magner.

Melton also received scratches to his neck and face during the confrontation, the affidavit states. Melton and another man told police that the woman began screaming at Melton when she saw he was at her home.

All parties stated that the confrontation was over money the victim allegedly owed to Melton. She said she did not have enough at the time to repay him.

The victim was checked out by EMS, but refused transport to the hospital by ambulance.

Melton told Magner he went to the woman’s home to confront her about money, but not to batter her.

Melton was arrested. He was charged Nov. 6 with battery resulting in bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
