A Martinsville man stole — and later pawned — a weed eater and jewelry from a relative he was staying with in Brown County, police say.

On Aug. 29, Brown County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Bowling met with the woman who said her Stihl weed eater was missing, which she had recently bought, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Det. Brian Shrader learned that Billy Crook, 37, had sold the weed eater and some of the woman’s jewelry at a pawn shop in Martinsville, the police report said.

The woman told police that Crook had stayed with her for about a week.

Shrader was able to retrieve the property from the pawn shop and returned it to the woman on Aug. 31.

Crook was charged with Level 6 felony theft on Sept. 22.
