ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a man shot two people — one over a bag of energy bars and one who gave him $5.

Police spokesman John Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Elijah Payton was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with the two shootings. It’s unclear if Payton was charged.

Officer Donald Hannah says Oliver Jesse gave Payton $5 on Monday after Payton said he was homeless. The group of men Jesse was with started running when Payton pulled out a gun. Jesse was shot in the stomach and is hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say Payton shot Vincent Hayward in the thigh Sept. 16 after Hayward refused to turn over a plastic bag of fig energy bars and a cellphone charger. Hayward ran away and was hospitalized for treatment.
