Cemetery preservation society

The Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society, a committee of the Peaceful Valley Heritage group, has changed its meeting date and time to 4:15 p.m., the second Tuesday of the month. The cemetery preservation committee will meet in the Archives room at the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St.

A class, “Symbolism in the Cemetery” will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in a lower-level meeting room of the Brown County Public Library. The class will be led by DNR Director of Special Initiatives, Jeannie Regan-Dinius.

The public is welcome at all events.

Peaceful Valley group

Peaceful Valley Heritage, Inc. is a preservation group which meets at 6:30 p.m the second Tuesday of each month in the Brown County Community Foundation (Howard F. Hughes) Building, 209 N. Van Buren St.

Meetings are open to the public.

Genealogical, cemetery societies

VAN BUREN TWP. — The Brown County Genealogical Society will meet jointly with the Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The cemetery is two miles southwest of Stone Head on State Road 135 South.

Members of the cemetery preservation society will guide a walk through the cemetery to look for Henry Cross-carved headstones. There is a shelterhouse where the church used to stand.

The public is welcome. Bring lawn chairs.

Widowed group

BLOOMINGTON — The Brown County Widowed Group will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 for a luncheon at Red Lobster restaurant, 2617 E. Third St. Any widowed person is welcome.

To carpool, meet before 12:15 p.m. in the St. David’s Episcopal Church parking lot, at state roads 135 North and 45.

Weight loss group

COLUMBUS — National nonprofit weight-loss group, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, also known as TOPS, meets in the MainSource Bank meeting room, 2310 W. Jonathan Moore Pike. Monday meetings begin with weigh-ins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

WRAPS

The Writers, Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. The next meeting is Oct. 19. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.
