BCIS on secured facility status

Brown County Intermediate School has been put on “secured facility” status this afternoon because of a parent acting aggressively toward school and office staff, Superintendent Laura Hammack told parents in a voice message this afternoon.

The students are safe, and will be dismissed as normal, she said.

“Secured facility” means that students are kept in the building during recess and halls are monitored closely.

Law enforcement has been dispatched to assist with this situation, Hammack said.

“We appreciate the efforts of the BCIS staff to maintain the highest standards of safety for the boys and girls,” she said.

This is the second time this month that BCIS has been on “secured facility” status. On Sept. 1, building security was tightened at all three downtown Nashville schools after a parent made threats toward another student on social media because of bullying, Hammack said. That parent was banned from school property for the rest of the school year.
